Kiko Veneno | URL Kiko Veneno is one of Spain's most influential pop artists. As well as working on some of Cathy's older tracks that became singles, he has also lent a hand with her new works. Kiko has also been active with Pata Negra's Raimundo and Rafael Amador in the band Veneno, as well as playing with the flamenco legend Camaron on some albums. Pata Negra.....Raimundo Amador
Gerundina The brothers Raimundo and Rafael Amador, new talents who crossed flamenco into the genres of rock, fusion and jazz, formed Pata Negra. The brothers have since split up the group, and Raimundo especially went on to a solo career becoming a guitar hero a-la-Santana. In 1995, on his album "Gerundina", B.B. King joined him to sing on his version of Cathy's "Bollore".
With Raimundo's help, Cathy's songs "Toi and "El color",received a distinctive flamenco sound, utilizing guitar and handclapping (palma). He also produced, with Cathy, her second album "Soleil Y Locura", and joined with his brother to appear on her 2000 single.
Pascal Comelade The final song "Instrumental" of Cathy's first album was by Pascal. He and Cathy have a long history. They both were members of Bel Canto Orquestra along with Pierre Bastien and others, for which group they recorded eight albums. Cathy has played flute, cymbals, bass and toy piano on Pascal's albums. He has played toy drums, guitars, violin, vibes and other instruments on hers. A unique connection can be felt between the Paris-born, Spain-resident Cathy and Pascal, the Erik Satie of the rock music world. In Japan, were he popularized the Avant-Pop use of the toy piano, the pianist Satsuki Shibano also plays his music. Quite an interesting album. Yukako Hayase Yukako Hayase, singer and actress in late 80's, sang Cathy's "Porque, Porque" as "IL" in 1989, in Japanese with her lyrics. She also sang songs of the French actress/singer Vanessa Paradis ("Marylin and John") and the Italian singer Rossana Casale ("De Ja Vu"). Yukako has left from the music scene since around 1990. Her singing style had a unique charm, almost like whispering, that was mysterious and alluring. She sang and wrote lyrics and some music and her albums were of various styles...Ordinary pop music, synthesized techno, acoustic sounds by various talented producers. I first came to know about Yukako after reading a book called "UL- French Pop Issue" in '96. It's a Japanese book for lovers of French music, covering many things about old and new France, chanson to avant-garde, girls pop, including Cathy. There I read about Yukako, I had known she was an actress but not about her singing career. I really wanted to hear her music but was not able to find any recordings or even much information about her so I made a Yukako Hayase website. Through the bulletin board I knew that many fans wondered what she's doing now? Someone was able to contact her, and we heard that Yukako will come back to sing again in 2001. |
